We’re asking the membership to get involved in PI. The following Monthly Focus will provide you with a theme and ideas for each month.

PI Monthly Focus Calendar 2026: May/June
There are some excellent opportunities to carry our message of hope during May and June. How about increasing PI work in your own town or village? Some Groups arrange a PI-day to visit local doctors’ surgeries, faith organisations, solicitors, etc. with information about Al-Anon. Working together on PI is a useful way to share experience and a good excuse for lunch or coffee in the process! The Al-Anon website has a list of useful literature for PI and UK128 PI Bundle is a great resource.
May
4th – 10th May is Maternal Mental Health Week in the UK led by the Perinatal Mental Health Partnership. Living with an alcoholic partner can create enormous additional stress for a new mother. Your local Family Hub or children’s centre may be receptive to information about Al-Anon. You may wish to draw attention to the case study Lisa’s Story on our website to highlight the isolation that can affect a pregnant woman affected by her husband’s drinking.
11th – 17th May is the Mental Health Foundation’s Mental Health Awareness Week. The theme this year is ‘Action’. Local therapists and counsellors may welcome the opportunity to attend an open meeting of your Group to learn more about Al-Anon. UK107 Families Surviving Alcoholism 2017 is a cost-effective resource for these professionals.
May 15th is the UN’s International Day of Families. This could provide a helpful context for an approach to your local Family Court or lawyers specialising in family law.
June
8th – 14th June (UK) 15th – 21st June (Eire) is Men’s Health Week organised by the Men’s Health Forum. Men are increasingly coming together to tackle the taboos around discussing their own mental health. Is there a men’s group in your locality to which you might reach out? These can meet in sports clubs, community cafes or as ‘walk and talk’ groups. You may wish to include UK8 Al-Anon is for Men alongside your PI Bundle.
8th – 14th June is also National Carers’ Week in the UK and Eire. The theme this year in the UK is ‘Building Carer Friendly Communities’ and in Eire the theme is ‘Making Caring Visible’. The National Carers’ Week website in the UK mentions carers for people with an addiction, and Carers UK has an online directory of local support services for carers. In Eire it is organised by Family Carers Ireland. Please visit www.carersweek.ie for more information. You may wish to approach these services in your area with some relevant information about Al-Anon.
27th June is National Armed Forces Day in the UK. The Irish Defence Forces own National Day of Commemoration takes place on 11th July. These events provide a prompt for us to focus upon the charities supporting veterans and their families. You may wish to approach any local representative of Veterans UK, the Army Families Federation, the Royal British Legion in the UK or the Armed Forces Charity (SSAFA) in Eire.
